Farmslist

The Farms in Bornholm and their farmnumbers.

Taken from "The Farmnames of Bornholm" by Olaf Hansen. Published 1966.

The Parish maps are taken from an old map, drawn and published by J. H. Mansa in 1851.

Pgd. = free man's farm (larger) or estate. Same word as "proprietor".

Sgd. = literally "self owner farm". Free man's farm.

Vrgd. = Tenant farm. Some of these were owned by the Crown or the Church. Otherwise owned by the free farmers at the PGDs or SGDs.

- sgd. = farms without a number or farms that cannot be found.

Se 16. sgd. (f.ex.) = the farm has been put together with the farm with this number.

+ 4. sgd. (f.ex.) = the farm with this number has been put together with the farm in speaking.

The ending "-gård" means farm. Some farmnames do not use the "-gård" ending.
A lot of farms have the same names, but different numbers. This often means, that the first part of the name relates to the area where the farm is located.
"St." (Store) means large or great, "Ll." (Lille) means small. An old way of differentiating farms within the same area.
A lot of farms also have names relating to the four points of the compass:

"
Nordre/Nørre" = north/northern.
"
Østre/Øster" = east/eastern.
"
Søndre/Sønder" = south/southern.
"
Vestre/Vester" = west/western

tidligere = former/older name
nedlagt = abolished
ikke stedfæstet = not located
